Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
